Just a few parting shots:

The magazine I work for is closing.

As of this writing, it is seeing print and will be available in the stands next week. I just have to say that being part of the team  has been one of the best times of my life. I’ve seen new places, tasted new cuisines, met new and interesting people, and it’s given me a really good preview on the life of a happy, intelligent and progressive parent.

It pains me and the rest of our staff to see our baby shutting down—and for the mere reason that it lacks Ads. It didn’t make the numbers, period. But if you browse through our magazine’s pages, you will see fresh, intelligent content that is the result of our team’s effort—effort that’s driven by love and passion.

This has been the root cause of all the angst I’ve been spreading in the Internet lately. It just pains me to see the publication DIE. This has been the most fulfilling work I’ve had, the only  one that’s gotten me to cry over the fact that it is ENDING, the only job that made me want to be a better person, the only job that I do not even have to drag myself out of bed in the morning because hey, I couldn’t wait to be there.

And now it’s over.

But I guess the good news here is that with this exciting chapter of my life seeing its finale, it’s time to make room for the new things to come. And yes, there are new beginnings, new projects for me. It isn’t really official yet but I will start posting about it in Shouts&Murmurs. At the moment, I am really resisting that project because I, like everybody else, resist change. But I know this will really do wonders for my versatility as a writer, as a reporter, so I guess I will just embrace it the way I’ve wholly embraced being an editor for HIPP.

As for the new blog, it’s really all symbolic. A new blog = a clean slate.

It’s a need, really. In a way, it affirms that it is the end of an era–and the dawn of a new one. I think it’s perfect timing. The decade’s just started, my birthday’s a few days away…it really is time to move on.

So goodbye WordPress, I’ve enjoyed my stay. This blog has seen me through tough times and really REALLY good ones. It’s been one great ride.

I know, I know. Too much thinking spent over a blog. But see the thing is, I am a firm believer of clean slates. And with all that has happened in the past three years (and my current work life undergoing a renaissance), I think I’ve outgrown my little virtual space here in WordPress.

Maybe it’s time I wreak havoc some place else.

I think I want to move now.

Or just create a new one.

Andale! Andale!

The latest source of irritation is all these politicians making use of night time entertainment to promote their campaign. There’s Loren Legarda invading the Pinoy Big Brother house (and the minutes in between, which plugged her campaign ad)—I swear, the entire time I watched her there, she seemed so cold even while she was interacting with the housemates. You just feel a coldness in her. Maybe it’s just me but I’d like to think I have good reads on people—unless they’re really really good at hiding who they are. Anyway, I actually like that Loren Legarda’s campaign is geared towards the environment because God knows we’ve neglected it so much. But I just really REALLY hope that it isn’t just political bull. If she really intends to implement (and implement it thoroughly, not just in spurts), then I would like her to win. But if it’s just going to be empty promises, then she’s not getting my vote.

Then there’s the whole Ninoy and Cory Aquino SERIES in Maalaala Mo Kaya, which is really (sigh) an attempt to further promote NoyNoy’s campaign—not to mention it eats away the other shows’ time slots (PBB started 30 MINUTES later than usual). Ugh, I really have the highest respects for his parents but if he thinks that using them would get him popularity points…well, obviously it will, but not from this blogger. And the cast for the series is stellar pa ah. They’ve gone ahead and casted the hottest hunk in Pinoy television—Piolo Pascual. His party is really milking the most out of his family’s history AND his sister’s strong hold over her network.

ARRRGH.

It just really frustrates me. All these not-really-subtle way to promote the running candidates. It just doesn’t spell classy for me. I hate that they think they can win over votes by invading prime time, by being seen alongside people’s favorite night time shows. It just doesn’t sit well with me, knowing how Filipino politics isn’t really FOR the state, but FOR that friggin individual.

Maybe I’m just jaded. But all the campaign marketing I’ve seen on TV doesn’t really show me WHO THEY ARE AS INDIVIDUALS. They are all being made to look like fucking HEROES. And we all know that only one or two there are sincere. And that I even have my doubts about.

UGGGGH. Am I just jaded? Is this reaction brought about by the current hyperactive state of my hormones?

Sigh. Times like these, it’s hard to feel hopeful.

I’m a registered voter. And I honestly do not know who to vote for. I know who I WONT so I’m trying to narrow it down to the one who deserves my vote the most. If this attempt is futile, I just won’t vote, PERIOD. I don’t think my conscience can take it if I vote for some chump, and that chump ends up pulling our country down further into laughing-stock oblivion.

I don’t know who I’m more excited to see…

…or Johnny Depp, who I am eternally obsessed about.
